John Manyimadin Kusimi is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Geography and Resource Development, University of Ghana. He holds a PhD in Geography and Resource Development from the University of Ghana and MSc in Environmental Engineering and Sustainable Infrastructure from the Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm. Dr. Kusimi is a physical geographer with speciality in geomorphology, environmental science and natural resources management. His research projects over the years have centered on coastal erosion and inundation, riverine floods, flooding in informal urban settlements, livelihood impacts of floods, adaptation and mitigation strategies to floods. Others include land degradation, land cover change analysis, socio-economic and environmental impacts of mining. He has won several international and local grants for research in his area of speciality and has authored (co-authored) several peer-reviewed publications. He is currently working with a team of researchers from Harvard University, Université Félix Houphouët-Boigny, and the University of Lagos in examining the impact of sea-level rise, urban flooding, and coastal erosion along the Gulf of Guinea.

Dr Kusimi was a Canadian Commonwealth Fellow to Simon Frazer University – Canada, 2011; TRECCAFRICA Staff Mobility Scholar to Institute of Resources Assessment in University of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania 2016, Cambridge studentship to Cambridge University 2013 and Linnaeus Palme Scholar to the Royal Institute of Technology – Sweden, 2003 – 2004. He is a member of some editorial boards including Advisory Board Member of the Journal of Earth Surface Processes and Landforms. Dr Kusimi is also a member of several professional bodies; National Scientific Member (Representative of Ghana) of the International Association of Geomorphologists (IAG) and the President of Ghana Association of Geomorphologists (GAG).
